Nobody calls me Benjamin, but benryding.com was taken.

While in a sleep-deprived 70-hour coffee-fuelled haze at the end of my architecture degree, I realised with surprising clarity that I was far less interested in designing buildings than the branding on the side of them. So, I downloaded the Adobe suite and enrolled in Communication Design.

I got my foot in advertising’s door as a designer at CHEP, before making the switch to creative at Ogilvy Melbourne. Here I honed my craft across clients I could eat, clients that could help me get around and clients that could make me look good. I then popped down the road to Hardhat to get some indie experience and work across local and international brands.

In 2022, I pulled up a chair at TBWA\Melbourne to add a batch of national and global brands to my repertoire, including Schweppes, NAB and Nissan.

During my time in the creative seat, I’ve made music out of bean grinders and coffee cups, created a way for a chocolate brand to respond to racism and rebranded a pharmacy as a beauty destination. I've turned rural Australian towns into driver rest stops to fight fatigue, shut down scalpers selling chocolate on eBay for exorbitant prices and penned a list of things more likely to kill you than the AstraZeneca vaccine—that ironically went viral.

My work has been recognised and awarded over 85 times locally and internationally, including a Gold and a Bronze at Cannes Lions ‘22 for AAMI Rest Towns.

In my professional life, I've formulated and led winning pitches, mentored students at my old stomping ground and tutored the next generation of Australian creatives through AWARD School. Outside of work, I recently said ‘I do’ and put the finishing touches on my first home.
